Continuing Education Units (CEU) Information

CEU education opportunities

  1. Attend UCSD CCARTA annual conferences and continuing care trainings (see below).
  2. Check with other ADP approved AOD counseling certifying agencies. They may have conferences and online CEU programs.
  3. Check on ADP website for a list of Technical Assistance and training resources directory. Those agencies provide CEUs in their trainings funded by ADP.
  4. Check with your treatment provider for their CEU education programs that are approved by one or more of the 9 NCCA accredited AOD counselor certifying organizations.
  5. Get CEUs online with distant learning programs such as Institute of Addiction Awareness, and Contemorary Teaching. They have Criminal Justice related addiction treament courses.


The requirement for renewal is 40 hours of continuing education units (CEUs). 20 of the 40 CEUs must be relevant to the prevention, intervention, treatment, habilitation or rehabilitation of criminal justice clients.
FACT will accept CEUs from any of the agencies approved by ADP or accredited by NCCA to certify addiction counselors in California. FACT will accept CEUs provided by any state, county, city or other government agency or by any agency that provides training through a contractual arrangement with a state and/or county agency.
FACT does not accept academic units or general in-house trainings as CEUs, unless the training organization has an agreement (and agreement number) to offer CEUs on behalf of one of the ADP approved or NCCA accredited AOD certifying agencies.

 

Conference and Training by UCSD CCARTA that offer CEUs

RTB-Raising the Bar, in March or April, San Diego (6 CEUs) Participation is based on invitation. Contact the DARS program you are working for to get the invitation. Details will be posted on CCARTA website two months before the event.


SCI- Summer Clinical Institute, in July or August, San Diego (18 CEUs). Participation is open to the public. There is a fee for the conference. If you would like a notification sent to you in advance, please call 858-551-2944.


OSATI- Offenders Substance Abuse Treatment Institute, October or November, Sacramento (20 CEUs, CJ related) Formerly called Criminal Justice Institute (CJI).
People working under the DARS umbrella are invited to attend. Please check CCARTA website for details and registration. Registration online will come on the website late September. For any questions regarding the conference, please contact Susan Timothy at 858-551- 6775.


Continuing Care Trainings (CJ related)
These are Trainings based on the needs and requests from parole regions. Please check CCARTA website calendar for updated information regarding training dates and locations. For any questions regarding these trainings, please contact Susan Timothy at 858-551-6775.
The training may last one or two days. Each day there may be 6 CEUs.
